East African Nubian Festival is set for Saturday 10th August

The East African Nubian Festival, which is organized annually by the Nubian community, will be held on Saturday, 10th August, at Imperial Resort Beach in Entebbe. This was announced by the festival organizers during the media briefing at the venue.

According to Mariam Salmin Hamid, the spokesperson of the East African Nubian community, the festival aims to create more awareness and recognition of their traditions to the public.

She also said that the festival will once again showcase the diversity of their culture and traditional music, with traditional acts coming from all over the country, as well as showcasing many Nubian cultural performances in different aspects.

“This 3rd edition will also feature a series of cultural aspects that showcase Nubian music, fashion in terms of different crafts, food, the calmness of the Nubian lifestyle, and desire to live in mixed communities as well as echoing our reputation as one of the most hospitable and lovely people,” Salmin noted.

The Nubian spokesperson, therefore, highlighted that the festival’s tickets will go for Shs 20,000 for ordinary, Shs 100,000 for VIP, and Shs 2,000,000 for the VVIP table, which will be inclusive of a Nubian cuisine to cater for 10 people.

“If you’re by yourself, you can buy a VVIP ticket at Shs 200,000 that’s if you’re not 10 people. The cuisines will include bamiya, kushari, shamsi, ful medames among others and gates will be open at 10: 00 am in the morning till the next day” she added.

She concluded with insurance of safe security as well a conducive atmosphere since the venue is very favorable, being located at the beach with a cool breeze from Lake Victoria in addition to the air conditioners in the hall.

Abdallah Haroun Shikamoo, the chairman of the organizing committee, emphasized the need for youth to embrace the Nubian culture to ensure its existence for the next generations to come.

“We are the Nubian generation of tomorrow; without us, we can’t keep the reputation of our forefathers, so it’s up to us now to spearhead our culture and get involved in everything concerning the Nubian heritage, which is a rich, sophisticated culture” he said.

During the same engagement, Shikamoo appealed to the government for equal treatment like other people because they are also Ugandans who contribute a lot to the national development.

“Whenever it comes to service delivery, we request to be considered as well without first sporting us as Nubians. This will give us a chance to be on a national table because we love and support every development program that goes on,” he remarked.
