Police in Entebbe have launched investigations into the cause of fire that gutted the primary four dormitory at St. Theresa girls’ primary school in Kisubi, Entebbe leaving property worth millions of shillings destroyed.
According to Luke Oweyesigire the Deputy Police Spokesperson Kampala metropolitan area, no pupil was injured during the incident. He also assured parents that the school management has tried to restore the situation back to normal.
The school was shocked and lessons were disrupted on Wednesday morning as fire gutted the dormitory destroying property.
Maria Josephine Namubiru the Headteacher said, the morning downpour with lightning-thunder storms struck electricity thus causing the fire.
She however confirmed no pupil was injured since by the incident, all pupils were in their respective classrooms attending to lessons.
“Teachers and pupils worked tirelessly to contain the fire using the school fire extinguishers and other available means with help from neighbouring schools while waiting for the fire brigade,” she remarked.
Parents after receiving the information from various sources, went to the school to check on their pupils.
However, some were denied access to the school which caused a commotion as they wanted to find out whether their children were still alive or dead something they couldn’t withstand.
Those who got a chance to access the school were seen in the school compound with their children trying to comfort them.
Local leaders led by the Wakiso district chairperson Martia Lwanga Bwanika and Ronald Kalema the Katabi town council boss also rushed to the school.
They both castigated the conduct of some parents who wanted the school to compensate pupils’ property that was destroyed attributing it to the school’s negligence.
The school management conducted an emergency parent meeting at the school about the likely cause of the fire and to forge a forward plan that was out of bounds to the media.
