It has taken over five hours for the Police with help from other security agencies to clear an accident scene at Nkumba traffic lights along Entebbe road after a concrete mixer truck rammed and crashed into a Mitsubishi RVR UBQ 371P on Wednesday morning.
According to a video footage released by police, the truck registration number UAN 836D coming from Kampala, failed to brake, falling over the Mitsubishi which was waiting at the traffic lights. It is said that the accident happened at around 7a.m, before the vehicles were disengaged five hours later.
Raphael Okiot, the single occupant of the salon car, reportedly died on the spot. However, his body was yet to be retrieved from the wreckage by press time.
The vehicles were later towed to Entebbe police station before normal traffic flow resumed. According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the truck managed to survive the accident and sought first aid in the nearby clinic.
Preliminary information indicates that the deceased was a lawyer, also a husband to one of the judicial officers. “HW Kwagala Faith Irene, Magistrate Grade I Kyenjojo with deep sorrow announces the death of her husband, Okiot Raphael, which occurred in a car accident in Nkumba, Wakiso District this morning. Funeral arrangements will be communicated later,” read one statement on social media. Police is yet to issue an official statement regarding the accident.
