Four Arrested over Entebbe Betting Shop Robbery

Police in Entebbe are investigating circumstances surrounding an attack on a Fortebet branch at Abaita Ababiri in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District in which a yet-to-be-identified sum of money was allegedly stolen by machete-wielding assailants.

The incident happened on Monday 3rd April 2023 at around 4 am. 

According to the police’s preliminary report, it was when Ssazi John, one of the workers on the night shift was closing the door after all the clients had left the shop that he was attacked by two men armed with a machete and a gun.

After the said attack, Ssazi and his two colleagues are alleged to have had their hands and mouths tied and locked in one of the counters at the shop.

Julius Otim, a guard from Corporate Security Services that guards Fortebet told police officers that he had guarded the place till morning but saw no one entering the betting facility.

Corporate Security Services guards the facility along with bouncers hired by the betting company who had allegedly not worked for the whole night per the police report.

Sarah Nassolo, a cleaner who reached at the betting facility at around 6 in the morning said that she found no bouncer or private security guard but an open door and some vandalized computers and people screaming from the counter, a matter which she reported to Abaita Ababiri police station.

Police officers including Scenes of Crime Officers (SOCO) rushed to the scene and collected forensic evidence that will aid the investigation.

According to police, the facility is equipped with CCTV cameras but these have according to the management not been functioning. Police has also revealed that the facility has only one entrance doubling as the exit. Power on all gaming machines and computers was on except for two monitors on the floor next to the counter.

Four suspects who are yet to be identified have been arrested and investigations are still at hand.
