Hassifa Nassuna scored a belter late to give UCU Lady Cardinals a vital point in a 1-1 stalemate against Rines SS WFC in the FUFA Women Super League on Monday.
The tight contest started with great composure and zeal as both sides searched for an early goal for a perfect start.
After twelve minutes played, Aminah Nababi headed home the ball to give Rines SS a required start away from home.
One would expect the home side in UCU to step up to vie for a leveller but Rines enjoyed more spells of possession taking the driving seat comfortably.
At half an hour, Shadia Nankya nearly squared the result but the defender was unlucky leaving the crowd on its feet.
Seven minutes after recess, Sandra Kisakye replaced Jackie Nakasi in UCU’s first change.
The entrant Kisakye engineered several attacks having great chemistry with Nassuna and they eagerly looked for an equaliser.
Rines’s custodian Bridget Yuko Nansamba continued to waste time something that frustrated UCU’s players together with their fans.
The moment of truth came six minutes into added time as Nasuna’s powerful effort beat Nansamba into the back of the net to make it 1-1 at death.
This is the second time UCU are scoring in added time after Jackie Nakasi scored late to grab maximum points from Kawempe Muslim in their previous game.
However, it should be noted that UCU continue struggling at home having lost against She Corporates and Kampala Queens at home before they won against Kawempe.
UCU Lady Cardinals sit third in on the log with 14 points, six off the summit while Rines are ninth with six points, one away from the bottom.
In their next games, Rines SS will host Lady Doves at Kabaka Kyabaggu on Friday April 1 while UCU will travel to Rubaga to play against Uganda Martyrs Lubaga on Sunday.
