Katabi Boss gives out Second Motorcycle, Bull in Boda Boda Tournament

Dubbed ‘Basamulekkere Mayor’s Boda Boda Cup,’ the football competition between and among Motor cyclists in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso district saw Kasenyi road Boda boda stage win the brand new Motor cycle for this year’s tournament.

The Tournament which began mid 2022 saw over 150 Boda boda stages participate at Parish level before two teams from each Parish, made it to the Town Council level.

Climaxed on December 31, 2022, at Wagagai Play ground, Mumbejja Boda boda stage and Kitara Prison road came in the third and fourth position respectively, where the former walked away with a set of Jerseys, balls plus an envelope of sh250,000= while Kitara prison stage in the fourth position bagged a full set of jerseys, balls and a sh150,000= envelope.

Coming in the second position after conceding to 8-7 penalty goals, New Garuga Boda boda stage was awarded with a bull, Silver medals for each player, foot ball and a full set of Jerseys.

Apart from the new motor bike awarded to Kasenyi road boda boda stage in the First position, the team was also awarded a set of Jerseys, a foot ball plus golden medals and the trophy.

Lillian Babirye the director of Babirye cares foundation, Betty Nanyombi the deputy mayor, the town council speaker Juma Abdallah and several town council councillors graced the highly thronged ceremony where each participating team was also awarded a certificate of appreciation.

The best player, top scorer, oldest player of the tournament, best defender, best supporters, organising committee among others were as well awarded.

While handing over prizes to the winners of the tournament, Ronald Kalema the Katabi town council boss noted that the tournament was successful with a rising spirit of sports within and outside Katabi town council.

“It has really performed its work of developing relationships and talents among others,” he remarked, further pledging to continue organising such tournaments as well as promoting people’s talents.

The first tournament of a kind was organised in 2019 before COVID-19 antagonised other similar arrangements. Kitara Prison Boda Boda stage won the 2019 tournament and was awarded the first brand new Motor bike.
