Kisubi Mapeera Secondary School has celebrated 25 years of existence since 1999 as a Catholic private school owned by the Kampala Archdiocese. From the original three teachers and eight students on 1st, February 1999 in Kawuku sub parish main hall, the school has grown in size to become a community with over 1,000 students with its current headmaster known as Joseph Ddamulira Kawuma.
The celebrations were held at the school under the theme, “Success is the fruit of perseverance,” on Friday 4th, October starting with a holy mass led by Monsignor Gerald Kalumba, the Vicar General of Kampala Archdiocese.
During the mass, Msgr Gerald Kalumba warned Ugandans, especially the youth, who always lose family properties funnily and uselessly.
“Unfortunately, some of our young people sell their land to buy boda bodas, and at the end of the day, they gain nothing. Therefore, I encourage you, our beloved young, instead of selling that land, kindly just utilize it effectively. You won’t regret it in the future,” he said.
The Senior Education Officer at the Ministry of Education and Sports, Caroline Cherotin, who represented the Commissioner at the ceremony, expressed appreciation from the Ministry for the amazing work being done in promoting government programs and educating the Ugandan child.
“Your contribution has helped the government to make milestones in achieving SDGs specifically Gaol (4) and vision 2040 implementation of our new targets. Therefore, I salute the board members, Kisubi Mapeera leadership and administration, specifically the head teacher and his deputy, for consistently working closely with the Ministry through their continued consultation with the department of Private schools,” she said.
On the same note, Cherotin lauded the school’s administration for developing talents in the students, saying, “Thank you for participating in MDD and sports, which you have always excelled in, which is a clear indication that you are providing a holistic education that is aligned with the LSC.”
The senior education officer also highlighted that only 50% of private schools have their learners uploaded on EMIS and, therefore, asked the school to do so to help the government plan, budget, and evaluate so that the decisions made are data-driven.
“As we celebrate this silver jubilee, let us continue to play a complementary role, let us remember that it is our responsibility to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for boys and girls, men and women in our education institutions is guaranteed. We should always work closely with the Ministry of Education and Sports and comply with policies, regulations, and standards,” she concluded.
Joseph Ddamulira Kawuma, the school headteacher, lauds the school founder, Rt. Rev. Fr. Vincent Mulumba for his steady leadership and commitment, saying, “Just as Martin Luther King Jr had a dream, our patron also had a dream, and today we are living it. His vision was to provide children in Kawuku, Kisubi, and neighboring villages with an education at a modest fee, enabling them to thrive in the future. He secured land at our current site where we have so far spent 20 years, and now here we stand witnessing the transformation of a dream into reality.”
The headteacher also appreciated the parents, old students, staff members, and stakeholders, including the Rotary Fraternity and WAKISSHA, among others, for their support of the development of the school.
“We now boast of a large campus with numerous buildings, each one a symbol of our commitment to providing a comprehensive and enriched educational experience. Our student population has increased from just seven to over 1,800. We have been limited with space over the years only maintaining about 1,800 students, but now that our multi-billion boys residence will be complete by 2025. Our doors are open to more students since this men’s residence will be able to cover over 2000 students and beyond,” he added.
Ronald Kalema, the Katabi Town Council chairperson and a member of the Board, highlighted that this silver jubilee is a moment to honor the collective efforts of all who have walked this journey with the school and also a time to recommit to the mission of the school.
“As we celebrate this significant growth, let us all be inspired to carry forward the legacy of Kisubi Mapeera Secondary School. May we remain steadfast in our commitment to excellence, ever mindful that the success we enjoy today is the fruit of perseverance, nurtured by faith and determination,” he noted.
Kisubi Mapeera Secondary School is located along Entebbe Road Kawuku Stage, and it is a mixed school, both O’ level and A’ level.
