Eden Mission has geiven Muhabura Diocese Lay Readers and their Spouses 66 Million UGX Loan at 1% interest rate to boost their SACCO.
The 66m shillings cheque was handed over to the SACCO members in a function held on September 12th, 2022 at St Andrew’s Cathedral Seseme Kisoro municipality.
In his remarks, the Eden Mission executive director Rwego, Kenneth used biblical allusion in John 9:5 and asked lay readers and their spouses to be the light of the world adding that, “Eden Mission focuses on equipping and empowering families to live healthy lives, maximize available economic opportunities and be Christ like transformers of society”.
Muhabura diocesan bishop Rt Rev. Cranmer Mugisha who officiated the function applauded Eden mission project for supporting lay readers and their spouses. He advised lay readers and Christians at large to always live under their means to avoid debt embarrassments. “After all this, I appeal to you to try living within your means and develop a saving culture on the little that you have if you want your standards of living to improve ,” he noted.
Eden Mission Kigezi region coordinator, Mrs. Grace Mutabazi hailed Muhabura diocese leadership for providing them a conducive environment during the training of lay readers and their spouses. “Eden Mission believes in element of spouses living a healthy and Harmonious life that glorifies God. we thank Muhabura diocese leadership for giving us a platform to engage with spouses” she added.
Mrs. Mutabazi further noted that 44 lay readers and their spouses managed to complete one-year course successfully on family empowerment. “The course was in five modules which included spiritual development, Christian life, Christian parenting, modern life, finance and business development. We believe that this has helped equip them with entrepreneural acumen necessary for business success,” she intimated.
The chairperson Muhabura diocesan lay readers and spouses SACCO, Ntibarikure Simpenzwe Stephen praised Eden Mission for trusting them with the loan but most importantly for training them in practical financial matters.
He revealed that their SACCO has 88 members and they managed to save over 3.6 million shillings and the loan will save lay readers and spouses from financial institutions that used to charge them high interest rate.
The coordinator of lay readers and spouses SACCO, Rev. Byiringiro Amon asked the SACCO leadership to follow the set guidelines when issuing loans. He also challenged them to always exercise equity and avoid discrimination in their work.
