Man arrested over Dog Meat

John Tumwebaze Viani, a resident of Ibambiro cell in Rusoroza parish, Kihihi sub-county, Kanungu district, has been taken into custody by the Kanungu territorial police. He was arrested for the possession of adulterated food, specifically dog meat.

The arrest occurred on June 2, 2023, around 11:00 AM in the bush at Rutwe cell, Kihihi town council.

Tumwebaze had slaughtered a dog and was in the process of packing it in a sack, presumably with the intention of selling it at an undisclosed location.

ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region police spokesperson, explained that the arrest was made based on a tip-off from residents, led by veteran resident Bogere Ibrahim from Rutwe cell. Initially, they suspected Tumwebaze of stealing a goat for slaughter, but to their surprise, they discovered him slaughtering a dog.

Tumwebaze is currently in custody and will be presented before the courts of law once the necessary inquiries are completed. He will face appropriate charges for his actions.

The police spokesperson also noted that a case related to the possession of adulterated food has been registered at Kanungu District Kihihi Police Station under reference number SD 13/02/06/2023.
