Police in Kanungu are investigating circumstances surrounding a 45-year-old man who has been found dead in his bed after allegedly drinking a lot of alcohol.
Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson has identified the deceased as Julius Byamukama a resident of Samaria village, Nyakachule ward, Nyamirama town council Kanungu district.
Maate revealed that the deceased was a known habitual drunkard for some time without eating until on Tuesday around 9pm when he went and carried sweet banana on reaching home, he threw the bicycle near his house. He entered and his neighbors waited for him to wake up until one of them checked and found him lifeless. He informed the others who called the police.
ASP Olargiu Innocent OC Station Nyamirama and crew visited the scene, recorded a statement and the body is still at the scene pending postmortem as inquiries into the cause of the death are still ongoing.
The case of sudden death has been registered at Nyamirama Police station under reference number SD 11/20/07/2022.
