Jas Mangat won the 2024 season’s National Rally Championship opener after driving fastest ahead of 39 drivers in the Mbarara City Rally. Returning after a break last season, Mangat finished fastest in all three sessions.
He completed the task ahead of Jonas Kansiime in second place, Ponsiano Lwakataka finished the race in third place, ahead of Moustapha Mukasa, Didas Matsiko, and Joshua Muwanguzi, followed by others.
Jas Mangat together with his co-driver Enoch Olinga used 1: 10: 23: 84 total time in over 127.48km that covered a two-day rally in Mbarara city.
Jonas Kansiime and his co-driver Ronald Buken in the second position used a total time of 1: 20: 21: 13 to cover the seven-stage rally followed by Ponsiano Lwakataka and Paul Musaazi who used 1: 20: 48: 45.
The senior driver Ronald Ssebuguzi together with Anthony Mugambwa as his co-driver came in the 12th position after using a total time of 1: 50: 24: 73 to cover the total competition distance.
Other drivers that participated in the race include; Moustapha Mukasa, Didas Matsiko, Joshua Muwanguzi, Isaac Ssozi, Edward Kirumira, Moses Okello, Ibrahim Lubega, Samuel Watendwa, Godfrey Nsereko, Amir Kavuma, Faizal Kayira, Salim Gasemba, and Julius Semambo among others.
The 2024 Mbarara City Rally was the first on FMU calendar 2024 events and had the cars scrutineering exercise on Friday, February 9 at BAM petrol station in Mbarara, before the competition proper on day one Saturday which had the first two sections in Katebe-Biharrwe and Biharwe-Kakoba and then the super special stage at Booma Golf course.
The second and last day Sunday had three sections of Katebe 2-Biharwe, Biharwe-Sanga, Akageeti – Ahakyaapa, Ahakyapa – Sanga, Sanga-Biharwe and the newly introduced Power stage section that runs from Kakoba to Mbarara City for a total competition distance of over 127.48km.
The two-day event was organized by MPU Motor Club in conjunction with the Mbarara City Rally Club (MCRC) and sponsored by Khaye Hotel, BAM petrol stations, EX- Effect, among others.
