MP Cecilia Ogwal’s body returned from India

The former Dokolo District Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal’s body returned to the country. The body arrived at Entebbe International Airport on Sunday 21st January aboard Emirates Air from India, where she succumbed to complications caused by Cancer on Thursday morning.

The Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among received the body on behalf of the other members of parliament present.
Accompanying the body was her husband Lameck Ogwal and other family members.

Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC Secretary General, said that Ogwal had no politics of hate, she was another breed of legislator. Always oriented and counselled female legislators.

“Hon Ogwal was always consulted by all parliamentarians regardless of political affiliations,” he added.

The body has been transferred to Mulago Hospital Mortuary and will later be taken to her home in Bugolobi for the vigil.

Fellow members of parliament will gather on Monday 22nd January to receive the body in Parliament.

Hon. Cecilia Ogwal, who died aged 77 years, was one of the longest-serving legislators, having served since 1996. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Committees on Physical Infrastructure and Budget.

She also served as Uganda’s representative to the Pan African Parliament (PAP) and a Parliamentary Commissioner in the 10th Parliament.

Hon. Cecilia Ogwal will be buried on Saturday, January 27th, 2024 in Dog Gudu Cell, Alito town council in Kole district.
