UCU Lady Canons ended KCCA Leopards’ perfect run with a 78-76 victory in the National Basketball League.
It was a slow start for the Mukono-based side which trailed by eight points at the end of the first quarter (10-18).
However, in the second quarter, the Lady Canons brought their A-game on the floor chasing the score only to go into the break with a point down. (31-32)
After recess, Leopards extended their lead but could not sustain it to the last whistle.
Lady Canons had an emphatic final quarter as they thrived from teamwork and a great quick rotation on the floor.
Prosper Ayine had a stunning debut performance carding a game-high 23 points as she carried her side to victory.
She added two assists and four rebounds on a bright night to remember.
It was a collective show as teamwork was at its best. Most of the girls managed t score double digits.
Lady Canons came into the game missing the services of Shakirah Nanvubya and Hajjara Najjuko due to injuries but it hardly stopped them from registering a victory.
In the next fixture, UCU Lady Canons will face Angels on Wednesday, April 12 while Leopards will return to action on Saturday, April 22 against Kampala University.
