The Nkumba University football team on Wednesday 24th handed over their first-ever Pepsi University Football League title to the university administration.
The boys joined the ranks of prestigious institutions who have claimed the Pepsi University Football League after a 3 – 1 victory over Uganda Christian University (UCU) in the final at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo last week.
Professor Jude Lubega, the vice chancellor after receiving the trophy, praised the team for the great representation of the university.
“Thank you team for fighting hard and winning this title and I congratulate you upon this massive achievement after 11 years of participation,” he said.
He also promised more support to the team including the modernization of the playground and financial support so that they can attain the trophy for at least two consecutive years.
Sulaiman Bbosa the University head coach noted that after winning the University League now the emphasis is on the world university games that will be scheduled in Nigeria.
The University team captain Kenneth Ssewankambo attributed their victory to good preparations, belief, and collective teamwork and also promised great performances in the coming world university football games.
This was their second final since 2016 when they fell to Kampala University at Mandela National Stadium.
