After 10 years, the National Meteorological Training School (NMTS) celebrated its fourth graduation ceremony in Entebbe.
The ceremony that was officiated on Friday 2nd February, was highly dominated by males with a total of 294 graduates and females 119 graduates making the total of 413 from the year 2014 – 2023.
Hon. Dr John Chrysostom Muyingo the State Minister for Education in Charge of Higher Education who represented the First Lady and the Cabinet Minister of Education and Sports Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni congratulated the graduates and urged them to always be conscience on time in whatever they will be doing in the field.
Muyingo also noted that he will continue to ask the government and parents to privatize educational institutions because the country’s wealth depends so much on the strength of human resources.
In her speech, Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni noted that the Ministry of Education and Sports recognize the vital role that meteorology plays in various sectors including agriculture, disaster management, aviation and environmental conservation.
“We have been actively working to enhance and support the National Meteorological Training School to ensure that it continues to provide world-class education and training and we shall continue supporting this as the government of Uganda,” she highlighted.
The First Lady also appreciated the parents and guardians for supporting the students up to this level, saying that please dear parents and guardians continue encouraging and supporting these young men and women to develop more in their careers and make us proud.
Finally, she wished the graduates success in their future endeavors and also encouraged them to continue reading and acquiring more skills because education is a lifelong journey.
Dr. Godwin Ayesiga the acting principal of NMTS said that it has been a while without holding a graduation ceremony because of limited resources however they have taken steps to mobilize resources so that they can have such events every year.
Christine Esaete one of the graduates with a diploma in meteorology noted that most of the companies ask for qualifications which has been a challenge to most of her fellow graduates in this period from the day they finished their studies to the date of graduation which is close to ten years.
As a government-funded institution, the NMTS plays a crucial role in developing and enhancing the capabilities of meteorological personnel in Uganda. It operates under the umbrella of the Directorate of Training and Research, which is part of the Uganda National Meteorological Authority that is in turn under the Ministry of Water and Environment.
