Roland Ndyomugyenyi Bish, the Member of Parliament for Rukiga County advised parents to continue investing in their children’s education without relent. Ndyomugyenyi, who had attended a thanksgiving service held at St. John’s Kandago COU Parish, emphasised the importance of both formal and informal education.
He was backed by Rev. Can. Johnson Manase, the Archdeacon of Nyabirarema Archdeaconry in the diocese of Kigezi. Citing the standing policy where one is required to have a bachelor’s degree in order to qualify as a secondary school teacher, Rev. Can. Manase encouraged parents to help their children attain higher education.
During the event, over shs33 million was raised for the construction of staff quarters at Kandago Primary School in Bukinda Sub County, Rukiga District. The funds were raised at St. John’s Kandago COU Parish, led by Erasmus Habasa, the director of Brainstorm High School Kabale.
Lonah Kwarikunda, the head teacher of Kandago Primary School, said they were left without staff quarters after the church provided land to the government for the construction of a new school. As a result, seven staff houses had to be demolished. Kandago Primary School is a government-aided school that was founded by the church in 1976 under the Diocese of Kigezi.
Meanwhile, the area MP Roland Ndyomugyenyi who contributed shs5million, highlighted several upcoming benefits for the district in the next financial year. These include shs1 billion for road renovation, in addition to the usual road fund, shs3 billion for the Parish Development Model program, shs1 billion to rehabilitate the Noozi-Butambi road up to Rubanda District, and shs500 million for a multipurpose hall at St. Paul’s, among other projects.
