Police in Kabale district are holding a 78years old man in their custody who allegedly had carnal knowledge of his 13 year-old grand daughter. The suspect has been identified as Edward Katarikawe, a resident of Kagona village, Kavu parish, Maziba sub-county in Kabale district.
ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi Region police spokesperson said the incident took place in the morning hours of March 11, when the girl had been sent by the mother to the neighborhood to get beans.
“Along the way, the victim met the grand father who forcefully pulled her to the banana plantation and defiled her,” explained Maate.
The police spokesperson said, during the process of defiling her, the grandfather was caught red-handed by a neighbor and took off. According to Maate, the report was made at Maziba police post and the suspect was immediately arrested and charged accordingly.
The old man is expected to be arraigned before courts of law on charges of aggravated defilement referenced under CRB 217/2023.
