Pupils attempt to burn down school dormitory

The Kampala Metropolitan Police is investigating two separate incidents of Arson, on school dormitories that occurred at MH Junior School Nabbingo and Young Elite Primary School in Kasokoso. These were carried out by two separate intractable pupils aged 11 and 16 years.

Investigations show that on the 3rd of June, 2022, a 16 year old P7 pupil called Mutwama Aminadabu from Young Elite School, Kasokoso located in Kira Municipality packed his school items and returned home, and he informed his parents that he was no longer interested in school.

The parents instead forced him to return to school. Reaching school, the boy set his properties on fire, which ended up spreading and burnt 7 other mattresses, clothes, school uniforms, 4 beds, 1 dispense and part of the roof of the dormitory.

The notorious boy escaped from school. It is so fortunate that no pupil got injured since they were in class.

Then on the 4th of June, 2022 at about 5:48am, a P.4 pupil by the name of Muyanja Anani Aramathan, who is aged 11 years and a pupil at MH Junior School Nabbingo, Ituga Cell, Kyengera Town Council, went ahead and informed his matron Nalwanga Cissy, about a fire outbreak in the dormitory.

On reaching the scene, the matron found when the fire had just started burning the bed of Muyanja Anani and immediately put out by neighbors and the school staff. A matchbox was recovered under the bed of Muyanja. This boy wanted to burn the school, so that they are sent home since he was tired of schooling.

The matter was reported to Kakungube Police by the Headteacher Nakhaima Aggrey.

Fires in schools can be a dramatic effect on the educational environment for the pupils and the staff.
