Residents protest bail application for suspected Land grabber

Residents from different areas in Wakiso district took to the premises of Entebbe Magistrates court to peacefully demonstrate against any attempt to grant bail to Charles Kyagaba, a suspected land-grabber.

The court sitting on Monday afternoon had convened to hear charges preferred against Kyagaba and two others, in relation to land-grabbing and malicious damage to property.

Presided over by HW Stella Maris Amabilis, court adjourned the matter to January 27, by which time, the state attorney was required to have consolidated all the files pertaining to Kyagaba and his co-accused. The magistrate also gave the same date when the bail application shall be heard.

Meanwhile, residents from different areas of Wakiso who claim to be victims of Kyagaba’s dealings, intensified their protest against Kyagaba saying, he would distort whichever ongoing investigations against him.

Dr. Anatoli Kamugisha, the developer of Akright Projects Limited, also a complainant against Kyagaba said, the latter had corrupted most of the institutions mandated to curb vices such as land grabbing until the anti corruption unit of the State house intervened.

Emmanuel Mujaasi of Ziru in Wakiso district narrated how Kyagaba destroyed his banana plantation in an effort to have him off a certain contested piece of land. “He had also mastered the art of installing fake grave-yards on a contested piece of land, to claim ownership,” Mujaasi narrated.

Several other residents were seen holding placards outside the court premises, asking court not to grant bail to Kyagaba, describing him as a staunch land grabber who would distort evidence and ongoing investigations against him.
