Wakiso Giants head coach Alex Gitta has attributed his side’s heavy defeat against URA FC to injuries.
The Purple Sharks were demolished 5-0 by the tax collectors in what is the first ever defeat against the four time champions in history at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso on Tuesday.
Wakiso Giants old boy Vianne Ssekajugo scored four goals against his former pay masters before Kabon Living added the fifth goal.
“We were unfortunate that we missed our key players in defence but we still had to do better,” Gitta said before adding.
“We were punished for each error and sadly, we couldn’t score despite dominating and credit to their goalkeeper because I think if we got a goal, the dynamics of the game could have changed,” he added.
Wakiso Giants missed two key defenders Edward Satulo and Simon Namwanja through injury and lost Hassan Wasswa Dazo in the opening ten minutes forcing midfielder Joshua Lubwama to come on as a defender.
Gitta has however urged his boys to react to defeat to URA in a positive manner and get the campaign back on track.
“That’s part of the game and we now must stand up and react and hope we have a few injured players return for our next assignment,” he noted.
The loss left Wakiso Giants seventh on the table with 27 points from 18 gams played so far.
Wakiso’s next assignment will be a home game against Kyetume in the Stanbic Uganda Cup on Tuesday February 22.
