SUPL: Mucureezi Salvages A Point Against Hardworking UPDF

Vipers SC were held in a one all stalemate by UPDF in the Star Times Uganda Premier League at Bombo Barracks Grounds on Friday.

Ivan Ahimbisibwe gave the Army side from the spot before Paul Mucureezi levelled matters from a well-taken freekick.

Vipers SC kicked off the game with vigour and swag but UPDF’s opener to enter them killing the pace and morale of the visitors.

In the 13th minute, Najib Yiga beat his marker Geoffrey Sunday to pace and laid a calm cut back to meet Ceasor Manzoki but weak touch was well collected by Yusuf Wasswa.

Three minutes later, Emmanuel Munobi laid a good cross to meet Yunus Sentamu who headed back the ball in play but Dissan Galiwango’s shot was blocked by defender Samson Kasozi.

Two minutes past half an hour mark, Galiwango laid an inch perfect perfect freekick in the area to meet Milton Karisa whose header latched off the woodwork.

Four minutes later Galiwango brought down Frank Yiga and he was cautioned awarding UPDF a penalty which was converted by Ivan Ahimbisibwe.

On the return of the second stanza Emmanuel Munobi was called off to be replaced by Denis Mwemezi as the venom looked for a come back.

Vipers SC tried to play more bodies in the attack bringing on Frank Tumwesigye and Paul Mucureezi for Hillary Mukundane and Dissan Galiwango but UPDF stood strong at the back.

Mucureezi had an instant impact with a chilly ball beyond Julius Kisambira but UPDF custodian Yusuf Wasswa rushed off his line to collect the ball.

In the 75th minute, Mucureezi was fouled at the edge of the box and Vipers were awarded a freekick and the second half substitute curled it in the back of the net to level matters.

Sentamu nearly gave the visitors the deserved lead but his volleyed shoot off Yiga’s cross went wide by inches.

The result keeps Vipers at the top of the log with 40 points four adrift KCCA who are second having played a game less in the on going campaign.
