SUPL: UPDF Throw Away A Two Goal Lead To Draw With Police

UPDF FC threw away a two goal first half lead only to share points in a 2-2 stalemate in the Star Times Uganda Premier League at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Thursday.

Youthful midfielder Andrew Kawoya smashed a long range freekick into the back of the net past stranded Police custodian Abdul Kimera hence placing UPDF ahead.

Police tried to find a quick reply to level matters instantly but UPDF stood tall and strong hence guarding their goal area.

In the 25th minute, Emmanuel Mugume laid a smart cross into the area to meet Juma Balinya but his powerful header was palmed away by custodian Yusuf Wasswa.

With five minutes to play in the first stanza, Emmanuel Mugume brought down UPDF’s Ivan Ahimbisibwe in the penalty area and the army side was awarded a penalty.

Ahimbisibwe stepped up to take the challenge and he smartly slotted it in the back of the net with a low hard shot.

In the second stanza, Odongo was fouled at the edge of the box and Balinya smartly curled the freekick over the wall and into the back of the net to give Police consolation.

In the 70th minute, Odongo’s cross into the area passed through UPDF’s defence to meet Yusuf Ssozi at the far post and the midfielder calmly rolled the ball in the net.
