Suspect Gunned down in a Foiled Police Arrest

One person has been shot dead by a police officer in an intelligence-led police operation at Gganda village in Nansana Subcounty-Wakiso district.

The deceased who police say succumbed to gun shot injuries has been identified as Lawrence Busingye.

The incident happened yesterday at around 2:35 PM following the theft of a motor vehicle registration number UAQ 571 B belonging to a journalist.

Vehicle Suspected to have been stolen

According to police, the Motor vehicle was stolen on Thursday from the City Centre parking lot where the journalist had left it.

The journalist reported the case to Central Police Station and an investigation was immediately instituted by police officers from flying squad after extracted footage from the nearby CCTV cameras vividly showed images of the suspect.

The suspect was instantly identified as a one Busingye Lawrence Amoti, Alias Mutooro.

Mutooro, now deceased was pursued by the task team from Flying Squad Unit until yesterday when they found him in Gganda. In attempts to flee, bullets were fired and unfortunately one wounded him and he later succumbed to the wounds.

Our police Flying squard took up the case closely working with the journalist and we were able to identify the supect via CCTV footage, we trailed him and in attempt to avoid arrest, he was shot and eventually succumbed to gun wounds,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Police spokes person- Kampala Metropolitan.

The body was later conveyed to the city mortuary for a postmortem.

The vehicle which is suspected to have been stolen by Mutooro was recovered at the scene of crime in Gganda, Nansana and towed to CPS.

Police continues to appeal to Vehicle owners to be vigilant enough and install GPS devises in their cars for easy location in incidences like this as they continue with the hunt and elimination of car thieves in Kampala.
