The government of Uganda has been urged to support and invest more in sports both financially and logistically; as being a source of employment and wealth to many.
This has been emphasised by the kick boxer Titus Tugume after winning a silver medal in the Martial Arts Championships. The competitions which started on March 23, were held in Sporthallen Zuid, Burgerweeshuispad, Amsterdam.
By the closure of the competitions, over 100 countries had participated. Tugume represented Uganda in 185lbs Elite striking mixed martial arts category where he emerged first runners-up.
“It has been one of my greatest honors to represent my country in these Championships,” expressed Tugume. He however, recollects the challenges he went through while processing for his travel documents among which include, VISA, recommendation letters from the embassy, Air-ticket among others.
His ‘tears’ were however, first washed away by the reception of the event organisers who expressed gratitude to host competitors from the East and central Africa.
After the competitions, Tugume sustained some injuries which he said, were swiftly treated until full recovery. He urges the government to improve on its investment in sports as a potential game-changer for the economy both directly and indirectly. “They should as well reduce on bureaucracy involved in travels and clearances,” he added.
