Uganda U20 Women National Team head coach Ayub Khalifa is confident that his side will go past Ghana amidst Ghana’s superiority.
Uganda will face Ghana in the 2022 FIFA U20 Women World Cup Qualifiers set to be played on Saturday January 22, 2021 at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
While speaking in the pre-match press conference, Khalifa underlined the team’s readiness to face the experienced side Ghana without fear or favour.
“We have done everything possible to see that we win our game against Ghana,” Khalifa proudly revealed.
“They (Ghana) are a good team and we except a tough challenge but our girls are in a good shape and can not wait to face the assignment ahead of us,” he added.
Uganda will face a great hurdle playing Ghana who have played at the World Cup for four times while Khalifa’s charges are chasing their maiden qualification.
Khalifa also noted the need to increase on the quality of the forwards in the team since the scoring rate was low in the double against South Africa.
“We have not been scoring goals in previous games but we have given the concern great attention and I believe we have found the solution.”
Hadijah Nandago’s only goal at home was the only difference between Uganda and South Africa since they played to a goalless draw in second half.
“I believe that as the tournament grows the competition tightens and getting goals becomes more harder but I am sure we shall have a better show tomorrow,” he concluded.
The winner between the two will play the victor between Ethiopia and Tanzania in the game that will be played in March as the final stage.
Ghana will rely on the services of their skipper Evelyn Badu who scored the only goal as the ‘Black Princesses’ eliminated Zambia.
Badu was also the Most Valuable Player of the recently concluded Women’s Champions League even though her team Hasaacas Ladies lost 0-1 to South Africa out fit Mamelodi Sundowns LFC in the final.
