The Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises -COSASE, has this afternoon handed over Uganda Airlines Chief Executive Officer, Jennifer Bamuturaki and other top Airline officials to Parliamentary Police to record statements as probe into operations of Uganda Airlines continues.

One of the Uganda Airlines Officials taking oath.

Bamuturaki and other Airlines Officials were put under Oath before the COSASE Committee moved to examin their academic qualifications. It is during this deliberation that the committee spotted inconsistencies in Bamuturaki’s name and academic qualifications.

Whereas Bamuturaki told the Committee on Tuesday that she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Works and Social Administration in 1994 from Makerere University, it emerged that she has since never got her academic transcript, 28 years on. She also said that she lost her UCE result slip and as such, does not have it.

MPs were mystified by Bamuturaki’s change of names. For instance, In 2019, she attempted to change her name to Jenifer Arnold Lenka after entering a deed Poll, she however told the Committee that she changed her mind in due course.

Uganda Airlines Officials tight lipped as COSASE probe tightens grip.

The probe also revealed that the Director Commercial at Uganda Airlines, is supposed have a degree in Business Administration or Bachelor of Commerce according to the job description but the current position occupant only has certificates from IATA, ‘and most of the studies are still ongoing’.

These irregularities prompted the Committee Chair, Joel Ssenyonyi, to hand Bamuturaki and Ephraim Bagenda, to Parliamentary police to record statements over matters of conflict of interest and inconsistencies in their submissions.

By press time, it was not certain whether the duo would be granted police bond or remanded.

The Committee commenced investigation into the operations of the Uganda Airlines following a red flag raised in the Auditor General’s report for the Financial Year 2020-2021.

According to report, the Airline budgeted for 22.329 billions UGX on salaries but Financial Statements and payrolls for the same period indicate that the Airline incurred an extra 4.919 billion UGx.
