Vipers SC registered a 2-1 narrow victory against troubled Mbarara City in the first leg of the semifinals of the ongoing Stanbic Uganda.
Paul Muchurezi opened the scoring account for the visitors before Milton Karisa extended the lead at the stroke of the first 45 minutes.
Right from the start, the hosts commanded huge spells of possession but were not clinical enough to put the ball into the back of the net.
The left back in Jasper Aheebwa was so rough committing several fouls but he was lack to only walk away with just a booking.
With five minutes to end the first half, Mucureezi’s strong challenge beat Mbarara City’s bodies to find the back of the net.
At the stroke of the break, Ssekeba fumbled with Mucureezi’s free-kick before Karisa rebounded to extend the Venoms’ lead.
After recess, Vipers found numerous chances to extend the lead but the pitch was not favoring a quick and total game due to an early down pour.
In the 82nd minute, Seiri Arigumaho found a consolation to give the home side hope after halving the deficit.
Mbarara’s woes continue after confirming that they got relegated, they will go into the second leg energised to search for joy unto the faces of their fans.
Both sides will meet next week on Tuesday at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende in the second leg of the tie.
