Ugandan scientist, Dr David Musoke is one of the 47 successful candidates that have been selected as Affiliate Members of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS). This membership is set to last for 4 years (2022-2026).
In a letter addressed to Dr Musoke, ASS Executive Director Dr Peggy Oti-Boateng congratulated him on his selection and also acknowledged his achievement in public health.
“Given the large number of highly qualified individuals, the AAS instituted a rigorous review process to identify outstanding forty-seven (47) candidates for this fifth cohort of the AAS Affiliates. You should, therefore, be proud of this recognition which reflects your excellent achievements in the field of medical & health sciences,” reads part of the letter.
An elated Dr Musoke said it was a great honour to be selected to the role and expressed his readiness to work with other affiliates to the development of the continent.
“I am pleased to have been selected as an affiliate member of the African Academy of Sciences. Being part of the Academy will not only facilitate networking with other researchers on the continent but also provide opportunities to further enhance our teaching, research and community service”. Said Dr Musoke
Dr Musoke is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Disease Control and Environmental Health at Makerere University School of Public Health.
He has over the years made enormous contributions toward Environmental and Public Health training, research, and knowledge exchange in Africa and beyond.

Through the Affiliates programme, the AAS plays a catalytic and supportive role to the African states and their sub-regional institutions in their responsibility to attract, support and retain excellent researchers who contribute to the continent’s development agenda.
