Ugandans embark on Elgon region expedition

Hundreds of local tourists departed Tuesday afternoon for the Elgon Region on a journey of almost 300 kilometres from the capital, Kampala purely for the sake of mountain tourism and adventure. They were flagged off at the Uganda Museum.

The campaign which was named ‘Khulambuula Elgon’ is a four-days tourism expedition and the first of its kind. The group was led by State Minister for Tourism, Martin Mugarra and Uganda Tourism Board boss, Lilly Ajarova.

Minister Mugarra urged Ugandans to continue traveling in order to boost the tourism sector. “We are also engaging local communities on matters of conservation and sustainability as well as bringing on board the private sector players to popularise drives such as the Explore Elgon,”

Among the travelers is the reigning Miss Tourism Uganda, Sydney Nabulya Kavuma, former kickboxing champion Moses Golola, musician Sheeba Karungi, and comedy duo Madrat and Chiko.

The group will tour among others, the Wanale hill, Sipi falls in Kapchorwa, Semei Kakungulu historical site among others before returning to Kampala on Friday.
