Nelson Akandwanaho, a suspected cannibal, was arrested with body pieces of his nephew Patrick Ariiho 11years, a pupil of Kiyombero primary primary school in Kyanyanzira cell, Nyanga parish in Rubare sub-county, Ntugamo district.
According to a police statement, Akandwanaho was on Sunday morning found cutting his nephew into pieces while placing the body parts into a saucepan.
“One of the residents only identified as Alex moblised other village members who went to the house of Akandwanaho and upon beeping through the door, they saw him chopping the deceased’s feet into pieces. They called him to open the door but he violently chased them away,” reads in part the statement.
He was later arrested and revealed that some of the body parts were thrown in his toilet while others were thrown in the neighborhood’s toilet (which belongs to the grandfather of the deceased).
Stephen Basiima 63yrs, the LCI chairman for Kyanyanzira village Nyanga parish in Rubare sub-county, Ntungamo District said the suspect is a biological uncle of the deceased with a history of mental illness. He further noted that the deceased
It was also established that the deceased was staying with his grandparents, about 400 meters away from the crime scene. The suspect reportedly took advantage that the deceased’s grandparents had gone to church leaving the 11year-old alone at home.
Some body parts were found in the suspect’s toilet and others like the deceased’s head and the trunk were retrieved from the grandparents’ toilet. “Other body parts like a leg, one arm, one foot and fingers were already cut into pieces and put in a saucepan to be cooked,” the police report read.
The Suspect Akandwanaho has been charged with murder vide CRB 66/2024 pending more investigations.
