University Football League:Nkumba off to a good start against Muni

FT: Nkumba University 2-0 Muni University

Nkumba University are off to a good start in the new Pepsi University Football League (UFL) season as they beat Arua based Muni University 2 to nil on Thursday.

Muni University seemed comfortable on the ball for the first 10 minutes, and were dictating play and pushing for the opener.

Nkumba would later find their cue and  dominate proceedings of the game, striker Felix Abishai Agumemboki heading in beautifully from a conner in the fifteenth minute.

The ‘Beach Boys’ kept on pushing for a second goal, and the efforts paid off in the 40th minute as Agumemboki calmly slotted past Muni’s custodian Moses Ocen from Paul Biko’s square pass to cement the lead and earning himself a brace.

In the second stanza of the game both sides came close to scoring, but were both unlucky and wasteful until the final whistle.

Nkumba are now level on points and goals with group B leaders Makerere University Business School(MUBS) who beat University of Kisubi in their opening fixture.

Nkumba will  take on two-time champions MUBS in the next encounter away in Nakawa on Tuesday 26th April 2022.

Nkumba University head coach, Sulaiman Bbosa gave his verdict on the game and what he expects when they take on MUBS.

Bbosa expressed his satisfaction with the victory over Muni and hopes it will propel his side in the subsequent games.

“There are a lot of things we should have done better today, but it’s the first match for many of our players, am confident they will come good. If we are going to challenge for the title we need to score more goals and be more comfortable on the ball especially when playing at home,” Bbosa said

“We are planning for games as they come, we are now focussed on MUBS. It’s a good side, it is the team to beat in this group, we have what it takes to come out on top. A win against Mubs means we shall progress out of the group.” Bbosa added

Bbosa’s opposite number, Gilbert Arumadri said a lot of valuable lessons were picked from thursday’s game and they will be looking to rectify their mistakes before they face University of Kisubi in their upcoming bout.
