This was part of a string of corporate social responsibility activities the army has undertaken across the country during the Army week that precedes the Tarehe Sita day celebrations under a theme, “Recognizing the sacrifice of the founders of people’s revolution for social economic transformation”.

Lt. Col. Willy Ndyomugabe, the Commander Kasenyi Training School said the landing sites are always dirty, hence choosing to clean them up as a signal for creating awareness to the community that they need to be clean in order to avoid diseases caused by poor hygiene.

“We have also put a medical camp in Nakiwogo to provide free medical services to civilians as our tradition to give back to the community,” he added.

The Deputy Director of Civil Military Cooperation SFC, Dr. Col. Moses Musinguzi noted that Ugandans have contributed a lot for the well-being of this country that’s why they decided to give back as a sign of appreciation.

“It’s our tradition to always appreciate the people of Uganda for their support. The support we get from the people has done us proud internally and outside,” he added.

Lt. Col. Dr. Aska Twinobuhungiro the director medical services under Airforce revealed noted that the free medical services offered to civilians included family planning, deworming children under five years, medication to non communicable diseases among others.

The Tarehe Sita day is marked annually in commemoration of the first attack by the National Resistance Army on Kabamba barracks on February 6, 1981. The attack heralded the start of a five year guerilla war that ushered President Yoweri Museveni into power in 1986.
