Kambi Ya Yua, known to be the biggest faction of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has been apprehended after a joint attack by Ugandan and Congolese forces.
According to a statemate issued by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) spokesperson, Brig. Flavia Byekwaso indicated that a joint operation saw the arrest of members of the rebel group.
“Kambi Ya Yua was a stronghold of ADF/ISCAP terorists, sitting on eight acres of Virunga forest land,” Bekwaso noted before continuing; “It is estimated to have accommodated over 600 terorists.”
“The camp were shelled before our (UPDF) ground forces moved in. This (Kambi Ya Yua) is the first camp we have occupied invading the terosists and their families.”
It’s been noted that the camp has been a point of military training and terror activities after materials that are used in bomb making were found at the place.
“The joint forces found one damaged laptop computer, 129 live rounds of PK machine gun loaded in their chain, 155 live rounds of sub machine gun ammunition, three solar panels and enemy strength registers,” the statemate highlighted.
The search is still on to see if there is any explosive or armoury as the crackdown on the ADF continues.
