SC Villa registered a 1-0 win against Bright Stars to cement their spot at the summit of the Startimes Uganda Premier League log.

Charles Bbaale’s goal came in handy to award the Jogoo a fifth win in a row creating a four-point gap ahead of second-placed KCCA FC.

It was the third loss in a row for Bright Stars to compound the pain of Asaph Mwebaze’s charges.

SC Villa nearly took the lead through Joseph Kafumbe but her low effort was calmly collected by Bright Stars custodian Sanon Mulabi.

Bright Stars responded through Ibrahim Kasinde but his freekick was palmed away by goalkeeper Martin Elungat.

It was a delightful show as both sides played a composed game though not clinical with finishing.

Once again Villa came close after Tabu Oryem crossed a splendid only for Charles Bbaale to fail heading the ball in an empty net.

At the stroke of the first stanza, Kafumbe was set up in the box but his effort was weak to go past Mulabi.

After recess, Jackson Magera rang changes introducing Patrick Kakande for Kafumbe.

The visitors’ closest chance came at the top of the hour as Noordin Bunjo went past Hassan Musana but his effort went wide.

In the 72nd minute, Bbaale curled the ball at the far post.

The forward was set up by Ivan Sserubiri who had just replaced Travis Mutyaba.

Bbaale nearly extended the lead through volley but narrowly went wide.

There was a moment of madness in the 88th minute as Edward Masembe’s back pass met Sam Ssenyonjo but his effort bounced off the goalpost.

The results take SC Villa to 40 points while Bright Stars are 10th with 24 points.
