Busoga United succumbed to their sixth loss of the season in their fortress to on-form Vipers SC in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Saturday.

Despite taking the lead in the second minute through striker Anwari Mustafa Ntege after Vipers defender Livingstone Mulondo’s handball in the box, the home side failed to build on the early advantage.

In the 14th minute, Yunus Sentamu placed his name on the score sheet after converting a beautiful free-kick to level matters for the Venoms.

Three minutes later, Vipers claimed the well-deserved lead through Ibrahim Orit who headed home Bright Anukani’s corner kick and the home fans at Njeru were silenced in style.

With six minutes to the break, Vipers custodian Fabien Mutombora pulled off a spectacular save to deny Ntege from close range hence keeping the visitors in the leader.

Vipers SC nearly extended their lead two minutes into the second stanza through Anukani’s freekick but Busoga’s custodian Micheal Natamu parried the ball away.

In the 52nd minute, the Congolese forward Ceaser Manzoki extended Venom’s lead after his shot was too much for goalkeeper Nantamu to lead with.

Eight minutes later, the left-footed Aziz Kayondo shoot off the rebound to find the back of the net following Bright Anukani’s blocked effort a few steps away from the box.

The first change for Vipers SC saw Allan Kayiwa replace Karim Watambala who had worked hard in the middle park. Later on, Paul Mucureezi came on for Anukani in the second change.

Mucureezi caused instant impact since his first shot missed the target by inches before he later laid a smooth pass to Sentamu but the forward tapped it inches wide.

The result sends Vipers SC to second place at 20 points from nine games played while Busoga sits 13th with seven points from nine encounters.

Vipers SC will be hosting Tooro United on Saturday, December 18, 2021, while Busoga will host URA on Tuesday, December 14.
