The Board of Directors of Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) on Monday 10th July announced the appointment of Associate Professor Sudi Nangoli as the Managing Director.
The appointment and handover process was presided over by Mr. Joachim Buwembo the Board chairman at an event that was attended by all board members and department heads at the UPPC headquarters in Entebbe.
Joachim Buwembo the Board chairman of UPPC highlighted that the corporation had gone for over 2 years without an operational board, the board was identified 6months ago and on 11th April is when the appointment of the managing director was done.
“Prof. Nangoli has been identified after a thorough process as a person who is going to steer UPPC to the next level in this new jungle of printing and publication and on behalf of the board and UPPC, I appreciate Kenneth Oluka who has operated without support of the board which has been non-existent,” he remarked.
While handing over, Kenneth Oluka who was the Acting Managing Director, said that in the process of developing a 5-year strategic plan, they have a joint venture with a German company which he said, will be the future of UPPC.
He also noted that in the market, there is a lot of competition but they want to ride on dialogue and cooperation, not competition, therefore he added that in this new era, they want to see dynamism so that they allow other publishers to thrive as we take the lead.
“To be competitive, we need to acquire a five-colour machine for the UPPC a process that we started that i suppose that we complete because that’s where the world of printing is and i know with the new forces plus the board members we should be able to improve on our E-publishing,” Oluka remarked.
Therefore, Oluka pledged his commitment to work with prof. Nangoli so that they fulfill the corporation’s core values and objectives.
“On behalf of management and staff, I want to thank the minister of the presidency and the office of the president led by Hon Milly Babalanda for supporting us over this period that I have been the Managing director here and entrusting me particularly to steer this cooperation,” he remarked.
He also appreciated his fellow staff and other partners for having made it easy for him in serving as the Acting Managing Director since 2018.
In his speech, prof. Sudi Nangoli the newly appointed Managing Director of UPPC said that the corporation has been mainly known as the printer but he is also going to emphasize the other side of the publishing because once they are the publisher then automatically printing follows.
“I thank the board of directors for giving me Oluka with the experience in publishing the new area where i want to go into and am very confident with his support we will achieve much,” he added.
Prof. Nangoli joined UPPC from Makerere University Business School (MUBS), where he was a member of senior management since 2014 and the Ag. Dean at the Faculty of Business Administration.
He was previously been Dean and Programme Controller in charge of the faculty of Management Sciences at Busitema University and sits on the Board of its Fund Company. He has undertaken international consulting assignments in reputable
