USSA Elite Championship: Kawempe Muslim, St Noa Share Spoils In Opener

St Noa Girl’s Secondary School came from behind to hold Kawempe Muslim Secondary School in a 1-1 stalemate in the third edition of Uganda Secondary School Associations (USSA) Elite Championship on Friday.

Rebecca Nakato opened the scoring for Kawempe before Nancy Mandera levelled matters.

The two finalists in the 2019 USSA championship displayed an entertaining encounter however only two goals were witnessed by the large crowds.

Kawempe Muslim had the first chance to get a goal but defender Ritah Mushimire’s freekick went off target by a few inches.

Moments later, St Noa settled in the game and enjoyed numerous stints of possession with Sarah Babirye as the main tormentor of Kawempe.

Angel Kigongo Auki beat her marker Samalie Nakacwa before he passed the ball to Prossy Nakandi but the forward’s last touch from close range was poor.


Miriam Ayoo remained with a keeper to beat but Kawempe Muslim’s goalkeeper Diana Natukunda rushed off the line to collect the effort.

The best chance of the game fell to Rebecca Nakato after Anisha Twaha laid a defence-splitting pass in the dangerous area but St Noa’s custodian Gift Nasasira parried effort before Barbara Anomo cleared matters.

After recess, Rebecca Nakato headed home Nalukoda’s corner kick to give Kawempe the lead.

St Noa nearly levelled matters through Mandera who met Ayoo’s cross at the far end but his challenge went above the crossbar.

Silky Babirye nearly gave St Noa the lead after stealing the ball from Agnes Nabukenya but the midfielder’s shot parried off the goal post.

At full-time both sides shared points.
