USSSA Games 2022: Mukono Kings Eliminate ‘Big Boys’ Royal Giants

Debutants Mukono High School managed to eliminate Royal Giants after a 9-8 penalty shot out win in the semifinals of the USSSA National Games at Greenlight Stadium, Arua.

The two sides played to a goalless draw after 70 minutes and the centre referee sent them to the spot-kicks to see who reaches the quaterfinals.

Royal Giants reached the Round of 16 after a perfect run having picked five wins in seven games in group C.

They managed to score 20 goals and conceded only two in the seven games bright at the group level.

In the other game, St. Mary’s Kitende registered a 2-1 narrow victory against London College, Nasana in the early kick off of the day.

Three minutes into the game, Faizul Tumwine won posession off centre back Fahad Kiyemba before engineering a counter attack.

The ball landed onto captain Andrew Kawooya whose cut back was smartly tapped home by Charles Lwanga hence placing Kitende in the lead.

Five minutes later, London College Nasana levelled matters through Collins Semanda’s freekick that beat Jack Komakech who fumbled with the ball before it entered the net.

In the second half, Elvis Ngode scored off a low shot to give Kitende maximum points.

Mvara beat Dynamic SS 3-0 while Kibuli scored late to eliminate Standard High School, Zanna.

In the quarterfinals, St. Mary’s Kitende will face Mukono Kings while Mvara (hosts) will play against Kibuli.
