Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC) has received a donation worth Shs 3 million from Mukwano Industries Uganda Limited which will be used to maintain sanitation at the Centre. The items donated include liquid soap, powdered soap, watering cans, and laundry soap, among others.
While handing over the donation, Barbra Atuhaire, who represented the company’s managing director, noted that Mukwano Industries is honored to give back to society, mainly to a wildlife education and conservation center, as parts of their social corporate responsibility.
“UWEC is an educational center with a waste management department as we do in plastic recycling. We also go around schools and sensitize children to the benefits of waste management, so that’s why we decided to offer this donation here by targeting a larger group of learners and conservation as well,” she said.
David Musingo, the Chief Warden for Entebbe Zoo and Entebbe Botanical Gardens, lauded the management of Mukwano Industries Uganda Limited for their generosity in contributing towards conservation.
“We spend a lot of money on such products like detergents, liquid soap, and washing soap among others daily yet we don’t have enough money, and therefore these products have come at the right time because we are struggling with the budget and this is going to supplement on what we have, so we are great full for this donation,” he said.
In addition, the Chief Warden noted that UWEC strives to conserve nature for the country and appreciates any helping hand in this, as well as advocating for more support either by becoming a member to sponsor an animal or through a donation as Mukwano industries have done.
“Even coming to visit alone you are also supporting us. The center has been revamped and developed with new products, so I encourage other companies and individuals to emulate Mukwano by giving back towards wildlife and environment conservation because every week, we are rescuing wildlife due to human-wildlife conflicts, among other factors,” Musingo concluded.
Recently, Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC) celebrated the International Day of Zoo and Aquarium Educators with engagements with learners of Entebbe Junior Primary School, where educators at UWEC sensitized them about the relevance and benefits of conserving the environment and wildlife.
