Zambia sealed the ultimate Group B spot after a convincing 4-1 victory against Togo in the 2022 Women’s African Cup Of Nations at Stade Moulay Hassan on Saturday evening.
Grace Chanda ( two goals), Ireen Lungu and Xiomara Mapepa were on the scoreboard as the Copper Queens continued to prove their dominance.
Togo’s only goal was from Afi Woedikou though it all seemed like a drop of water in an ocean.
In the 15th minute, Zambia took the through Chanda whose pace was too much for Togo’s centre-backs before she calmly placed the ball home.
Twenty minutes later, Lungu went for power unleashing a strike from 35 yards beating custodian Amouklou who was off the goal line.
Later on, Togo pulled back one through Woekidou who simply tapped home Yawa Konou’s freekick that hard bounce beyond Zambia’s custodian.
Zambia still kept furious and dangerous in the game extending their lead through Mapepa who found the back of the net from a tight angle.
Shortly before the end of the first stanza, Mapepa’s cross was met by Chanda who made no mistake just in front of the goal.
The win means Zambia play against Senegal on Wednesday to tell who makes the Semi-finals of the ongoing competition.
In the other game, Cameroon registered a 2-0 victory against Tunisia to claim the second spot of Group B.
An early strike from Michaela Abam and Ajara Nchout’s late goal was enough as Cameroon picked their maiden win of the tournament.
Cameroon are set to play the runner-up in Group C which is currently Nigeria.
