Years after a car crash left Zainah Abdul severely injured and in immeasurable pain, her dreams were completely shattered. The eighth day of October 2017 is one she wishes to forget.
A devastating spine injury has confined her to a life in bed. Zainah can not move her lower body after enduring several surgical procedures over time.
The 33-year-old, single mother of two has for the last five years spent all her days in bed, barely able to change her position without help and relying on painkillers and multiple prescription drugs to ease her pain.
She was given a second chance at life, albeit a changed one from the one she had before the crash. Through the discomforting pain, she continues to fight for her life every single day with hope.
“I want to get back on my feet so that I can support my children, they need their mother to take care of them. There is so much I want to do for my kids,
“I want my children to remember me as a strong woman who had her hope alive even amidst life draining pain” she said.
Fortunately, Neurosurgeons have provided hope for Zaina to regain full use of her body. A corrective procedure on her spine and months of therapy in Turkey will give her a shot at walking again.
Zaina says the surgery will cost upwards of UGX 250 million in Turkey. “The surgery was planned for this year, but we are still looking for the money, well-wishers and friends have contributed but we still have a long way to go,” she said.
